Sure, we took down the retreating recurring villain with it, but from then on, we had to keep up our anti scrying spells for the rest of the campaign...
Although, such events can lead to something truly awesome. I built my ranger to be an expert sniper. He could drop targets well before they got to melee. When the DM made his own version of this and sicced it on us it dropped half the party. Why do I say this is awesome, because it ended in an epic sniper duel.
