As I binge through to the latest update, I hope that this will escalate into a DM vs GM fight.

Yeah, i think Gordon was trying to use the Kuroobi and Sanji fight to stall for time until Luke or Cory are free to fight Kuroobi.
DM is really trying to have Kuroobi end the fight to go finish Zoro or Luffy.
