Ah, haven't we all been there sometime? The DM wants a nice, quiet game with standard elves, dwarves, and halflings, then someone decides to pull something from the Dragon magazine or the like? I've been guilty of it myself. (Personal favorite is the Tibbet feline shapeshifter race.) But the DM's been more than willing to take advantage of the unlocked resources. After all, if it's available to the players, it's more than fair game to him.
I'm doing the opposite, soon. Entire campaign world is populated by Raptorans, Undyne, Warforged, Goliaths, and my personal favorite, Dvati. I've had to explain to every one of my players what Dvati are.(They're a Dragon Magazine race of magically bonded twins, for the curious. Every Dvati character is two identical, slightly weaker than average characters.)
When I read Undyne in that list I immediately imagined a full race of warrior fish calling people punks and nerds and chucking energy spears... then I remembered we're talking dnd and there's something else entirely for Undyne... the thought amused me though.
O.o someone else actually uses the Dvati are you my spirit brethren
As I recall Dvati will die if the other does but otherwise you can argue your doubling up on whatever you do with them who needs to be fancy when two delayed blast fireballs will melt most faces.
