I was GMing a homebrew mystery horror game and I accidentally mixed up my notes, had the wrong door be locked (it was supposed to be open to let the characters find evidence of villagers feeding unfortunate tourists to a group of mutated cannibals), and consequently, I drove the whole campaign off rails.

Next session, the players have intended to return to the village after a long side adventure that I can only blame myself for. I will show that the village has been abandoned in a hurry, but some of the stuff is still there. This time, the door will not be locked, gosh darn it to heck!
