Once upon a time, my group was playing a seafaring campaign, where the ship was our home and base of operations. We had pulled into our orc barbarian's home port to handle some issues that were happening. The Chieftain came out of his hut demanding to know why he had brought foreigners. The gnome sorcerer decided now would be the best time to try reasoning with the chieftain. It ended with the gnome promising the chieftain that he could have our ship, all our gold and the entire crew as slaves. The Orc was quite upset when we decided to murder the entire village and the gnome instead.
Well, there was this one guy we captured and intimidated into telling us his bosses' plans during a D&D campaign. All reasonable stuff until I decided I didn't like him very much. I tossed him a dagger, told him we'd let him live if he cut off his ear so I could add it to the ear necklace I was working on, and rolled intimidate.
I rolled so well he actually did it.
World War One started partly because after the Austrian duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, Austria sent a list of ultimatums to Serbia. Almost all of these ultimatums were very unreasonable, such as allowing Austria police to operate in Serbia freely. Serbia refused, and war started. It ought to be noted that these ultimatums were made to be unacceptable on purpose, so as to provoke Serbia to war.

Well, even more so. I mean it’s still Luffy.
But him trying to haggle forever makes sense as a D&D player
