"Tell a Story: You Believe"

The most power tool in the DM's arsenal. Character knowledge limitations; and the words, "You believe that X is True."

Share a time when your character thought something was true, when it obviously wasn't. Bonus points if there was a bad roll involved at some point.

The best one is when it's unclear whether it was an easy roll or a really hard one.

So the DM can give the answer and until later, you have no way to verify.

I sometimes like giving very easy knowledge rolls, so the player is like "Well, I know THAT isn't true, I only rolled a 4 to find it out."

I just went and looked, and apparently Raise Dead does not specify humanoid, just any creature (then it enumerates types that can't be raised). Strikes me as funny that if you don't dispose of the boss's body, some jerkass mid-level cleric could just come along that night and patch him up with enough time left for a long rest before morning.

I think there is a certain intent based on the time limit for some raising spells, which unfortunately really should have been stated differently.

If you dumped acid on a body and the organs are steipped to just bones, most spells that aren't outright skeleton necromancy stuff should fail. Likewise, taking out organs. Fail, fail, fail. The decay time limit should be based on putrefaction.

I mean, that'd be just asking for someone to cast raise dead on some 10,000 year old frozen corpse on a mountain top or something. But yeah, lop off a couple limbs, decapitate them, torch the body, have the druid's pet tiger eat his corpse, etc, makes it take a *much* more powerful cleric to do it.

Huh. Apparently 5e made the spell a *lot* more permissive. Didn't used to be able to use it on constructs, elementals or outsiders, but now it's just undead blacklisted. So... Guess you could use raise dead on a golem or something? Weird.

Probably because of Warforged.

I didn't put up with that crap in my homebrew. Droids are hybrid Star Wars (allows socket customizing, similar to how R2 has a rotary key, lightning beam, grappling hook, two stubby legs, and a emergency rocket pack), Futurama/Questionable Content (you can make their chassis out of ANYTHING including wood), and Transformers (a quasi-religious system explaining why their self is not in their body but in a "soul chip").

Bottom line, you destroy their body but chip is intact, you can insert the chip into a new body. But no revival if their chip is toast. Or course, they believe in some kinda robot afterlife. But it's incompatible with revival methods.

Regular raise dead already says it does not restore missing body parts.
You have to use Resurrection for that, which is twice as expensive and a level 7 spell instead of level 5.

Wait! You all don't keep a pet Bag of Devouring to "hide the bodies?!" Just poke each corpse's hand in and out of the bag repeatedly like you are baiting a fish and eventually no more resurrection/speak with dead issues.

Really, it's like nobody studies to be an assassin anymore.

Always burn the body. If you can't, at least stab it a little. Or stuff it into your extradimensional space for later.

If it's 3.5 raising people from the dead as a skeleton or zombie is a good way to block even true resurrection. Since anyone that can cast true resurrection probably can also scry you might want to stuff it in a leadlined coffin and hide it somewhere as well.

Going though the Archives, I came across the crossovers and mention of some of the Other D&D comics.

Where can I find the harry potter one (leaky D20?) as DA is broken.

Y'know, I wonder if this thing with the heal checks is gonna turn into a running gag? People in this series sure do assume someone's dead only for them to get up later and be mostly fine pretty often.
