You can't turn those off, either it doesn't produce heat OR it can't ever be put in a container. And the official method to blocking the light from an Everburning Torch is to put a bag over it. So that at least suggests the second. I can't remember if it's more specific than that, though,
Not equipment but a spell. I've been playing with my group for years (5e) and this one spell is still the most contentious thing in the group because of the implications of how it works. It doesn't just lift you into the air, it instantly kills all momentum. You can dead stop any object up to 500lbs instantly if you can manage to react to it. Also for some reason flying doesn't work when affected by it but you can still climb?

uhhhh... how about, name a time your players' sat around and argued about how their equipment works, RAW vs. RAI vs. common sense.
