Not trying to nitpick, but maybe that last line should be "You... seriously tried to blow up the guy whose whole thing is blowing himself up? Without hurting himself?"

Maybe it is just me... XD

I mean, just because he's immune to his own explosions, doesn't make him immune to the fire and/or bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage from other explosives.

"Actually"

I guess someone who's melee combat strategy is exploding may not be completely immune to explosions- except that is a very reasonable assumption for devil fruit powers.

Plus considering his secret dream is to be a fire man, he might be able to parley his explosion immunity into other resistances.

Basically for devil fruit nonsense immunity is quite reasonable to assume in this case. Just like how buggy can split himself appart harmlessly, and thus is also immune to being harmed by cutting him apart with swords.

Its been a while since I read or saw the canon scene so maybe ussop is planning on taking advantage of the cover from the explosion?

It had the biggest damage! I'm sure we've all chosen to use something they should be resistant to because it ultimately has more damage potential than using the thing that gets past their resistances before, right?

Yup. Id rather do 5D6 that the enemy resists than 2D6 that all gets through

Hmm, let's check the math on that. If the opponent has a resist 5, then yeah, the 5d6-5 is clearly the better option since you're guaranteed to do some damage, and have a decent chance of doing considerably more than you would with the 2d6.

If the opponent has resist 10, then 5d6 still has the potential for more damage if you roll really well, but also has a chance to be completely nullified if you roll really poorly. So if you compare the averages, 2d6 guaranteed damage averages at 7, while 5d6-10 averages at 7.5

Or in 5e resistance is half, so 5d6 is going to be better than 2d6... assuming they're resistant and not immune. Which is one of those things you can't necessarily be sure of.

I mean at this point he doesn’t have a lot of options here and besides the guy is imune but the girl isn’t.
