I was worried how DT were going to do this arc in a way that's actually fun, but I really like the direction it's currently going. Now I am hyped instead of worried.
So for today’s story time, I propose a time the party has cast the ultimate spell “Summon Bigger Fish”. Those times when you decide to call in something even nastier than the antagonist and hope it gets busy killing them instead of you.
Once in a Lovecraftian Pathfinder game while investigating an ancient temple, we came across a Shoggoth nest. At least one full grown Shoggoth along with a shitload of lesser spawn.
The party’s response? Call Godzilla.
I kid you not, Godzilla actually has a stat block in Pathfinder. They don’t actually call it Godzilla, but it’s Godzilla. And the party had just happened to pass by a sleeping Godzilla on their way to the temple.
So we used some magic to recreate the territorial call of an Ancient Red Dragon, which wakes Godzilla up. We set up a big dragon illusion right on top of where the Shoggoth nest is. Godzilla attacks the illusion, passes right through it, and blows the roof off the nest. Cue an absolute swarm of Shoggoforms flooding out “like foul ichor seeping from an infected wound”. The party proceeded to sit back and watch the fight. Temple was completely wrecked, but not like we cared. Any loot was probably cursed anyways

A Kraken is CR 23, a leviathan 20 and a Dragon Turtle is 17.
So the munchkins should have no problem with that.

Everyone knows cursed loot is the best loot! You missed out. But, you know, also survived so that's nice.

If Nat start charging head first into the danger, they're going to miss someone to be the voice of reason. fun troubles in perspective.
