Does water count as anything? As if so then yes. And also if he hadn't, rule of plot means it would have had to hit something else to make it not seem a total waste.
This is why I don't like filler. How come Zoro has no problems cutting an iron cannonball but struggles many episodes later against Mr. 1 who is made of iron?
Zoro's badass moment of cutting the cannon ball in half is severely lessened by the fact that the ball was 6 feet over the deck and could deal no damage.

Sorry to say, but you're missing an L in the last panel.

Hey, just 'cuz Zoro is awesome is no reason to take out your aggression on Wil. What did he do to deserve it?

Well, his "Self-appointed mouthpiece of geek" persona is a bit of a tool.

At the very least he's not leader material. Maybe you can bring him back as a goon later on, see if he works better there.

Uh, if Zoro had just ducked would that cannonball have hit anything?

The buggy ball(TM) in this setting is a mini-nuke.
so i think the answer is yes.

Because Mr. 1 is made of steel as far as I remember? You're right that filler screws this up but that's the filler after Rogue Town not before.

That only happened because he used a wind maneuver to redirect the cannonball towards himself.
