Don't you loose stance benefits when unconscious?

I don't think you lose ones that are a part of your biology.

Won't he just give up and stay down eventually?

Also, getting up grants a AOO, so he should be shedding HP quickly.

"Slow death"

He did take an extra round to get back up there.

And that's why, in 5e, you only regenerate if you have at least 1 HP. (If somehow you almost die, stabilize, and are left to just lie around, you gain 1 HP after an hour or so).

Pretty sure it's after a long rest, which is 8 hours by default. I can see going to 5 min/1 hour instead though (it's even listed as an optional rule in the book).

This really screwed over the 1st level party trying to play through Hoard of the Dragon Queen since it was trying to make them hurry while multiple people were below zero with no remaining healing magic. "Sorry, we're not doing anything for two days." *module is completely derailed*

PHB p198
"A stable creature that isn't healed regains 1 hit point after 1d4 hours."
So a breather and a long rest should get you topped off. Or at least up and moving with an extra hour for a short rest to spend hit dice.

That first chapter of HotDQ is insane for 1st level. You've got to pick your fights.

This is a confusing issue for me since my brief, limited D&D experience never dealt with its take on regeneration.

What I am used to from other systems *coughmostlyGURPScough* is just having to overwhelm it. If it is the kind of thing that doesn't stay dead (Unkillable Lv2) you expose the remains to a constant source of damage like a fire hot enough to cancel out the healing. Not always an option if the opponent is quite durable or has the best level of Regeneration... a level that I'm used to costing about as much as a starting character. XD

that's it. having something that deal bleeding damage, for exemple, can be good against fast-healing.

"Umm actually"

Well the revenant gets up with 10hp of regeneration even if he's knocked down to 0. the only way to stop that is with fire or radiant damage.

Just curious:

No one else has mentioned a revenant so to which comment were you responding?
