A couple weeks ago in Dark Heresy, we found a crew of scavengers tearing apart some old furnaces for scrap. The techpriest wanted them all dead for desecrating the machines, of course, but we needed information, so my character decided that walking up to them at striking up a chat was a good idea. I did have the caution to wait for half our team to take up overwatch and prepare to shoot them on my signal if things went south, and they nearly jumped the gun when the boss pulled a gun on me to get a straight answer about why we were there - when I admitted we were there to purge a suspected cult, he was very cooperative, stowing the guns and giving us directions to some strange noises his crew had been hearing and writing off as the wind before piling into a truck with their salvage and putting as much distance as possible between them and a firefight between a cult and the Inquisition. He gave me his name before he left, though, so now I have a contact in that planet's crime circles. Better yet, my six-man team wasn't injured by going up against 15 men with ghetto uzis before we took on a sorcerous cult packing overcharged laser rifles, oversized swords, and combat stimulants to swing the swords very, very hard. As is we nearly lost two men; the Assassin had to burn a fate point to live after failing a Toughness test against shock when his arm got lopped off. |

So, we're sneaking through a secret passage, in a keep, overrun by hostile forces. We see a guy, wearing the enemy's colors, bloody but conscious, and propped up against a wall. Now, since we're sneaking in the middle of an enemy's base I decide that the best course of action is to make sure he doesn't alert anyone to our presence, so naturally I try to run up and cut his head off... and the cleric stops me. Dirty, divine, life savers. |
