"You use WHAT?!"

...You're using Paint.net to put together this comic?

....That's actually pretty impressive. I would have never guessed.

Paint.net is not that bad!

Anyone else think Luffy would make a fantastic jägermonster?

"How do dose plens ulways end?"

"Right, and any plan where you lose your hat is?"

"A bad plan."

"Right."

Honestly I've grown tired of them. They interrupt the flow of the comic way to damned often with little stories that have nothing to do with the main story. Its vastly annoying.

I think this One Piece comic is far superior. I'm actually enjoying it.

nothing to do with the main story? it's called Chekov's Gun. they all have SOME kind of relevance.
I think the two comics are about equally matched.

Haha, I do think Luffy would make an ideal Jägermonster.

"Yeah that's about when he goes off the deep end."

Then again he was more or less a regular guy who got half dragged half coerced into joining the craziest and most ambitious crew on the high seas.

so I may have inadvertently found the writing prompt for today. "Characters that fell in with minmaxed monsters that ended up adapting to where they could keep up, despite the skills gap."

So I'm going to reach back into my gaming history to my first ever character. Phae'raun (yes, I did not know any better at the time) the rougish Drow bard, the younger adopted brother of Ty'rit Shadowstalker (basically he was a PC version of Jarlaxle and Gromph rolled into one only without the mercenary crew following him around.)

ty'rit was already an established character in a campaign, and because I was the new guy, he magic'd his younger brother into existence and away we went. First encounter had phae'raun hiding in a damn corner as molten bees flooded the passageways of the shadowstalker stalagmite as a minor house attached to Baenre attempted to wipe the family out. Note these were molten bees that Ty'rit had dumped out of a his hat to deal with the intruders.

Because of some terrible rolls the only thing Phaeraun was any good at was hiding. And that he was the boss of. Eventually growing so good at he eventually fell into the elemental plane of shadow. Through some clever solo rp (partly because I had been sick for a session and a lot of stuff had happened the handwave was that while hiding my character had fallen into the plane of shadows instead of one of Tyrit's numerous dimensional pockets and portable holes (one of which was filled with a few tons of pumice exclusively for pitfall traps)the fall into the plane had stripped him of his mortal body and landed him in the hunting grounds of a minor lord among shades. As merely a spirit Phaeraun managed to evade a hunting party of shades, eventually hiding within the shade lord, effectively possessing and merging with him like some kind of plot point out of Buffy the vampire slayer to keep Spike or angel around for a while during a contract dispute.

He then managed to fake the shade lord's life long enough for a rival lord to attack the holdings and Phaeraun faked his own death before escaping through the treasure room of the lord's castle (and pilfering a few choice pieces of gear (namely a cloak that stabilized his body enough that he could walk around in full sunlight and not turn into black mist) before jumping through a gateway into the waymeet where a navigation roll placed him squarely in one of Tyrit's dimensional pockets. Who promptly yelled out "Pocket brother distraction!" and threw the poor elf at a mostly dead, and very angered, lich.

This comic really makes Krieg more of a badass than he was in the original comic. I don't know if it was changed in the anime since it's been so long since I've seen it, but the manga is a little different.

In the manga, Luffy does not give a crap about Krieg and he's defeated quite easily. Luffy just charges at Krieg multiple times with some of his best attacks.

In my opinion, Gin is much stronger and more interesting than Krieg. I never liked him really.

I know, right? It's not like the framing device is that it's a D&D campaign, so the enemies have to be relevant in power level to the protagonists or else it's boring, and not the actual anime where the relationships between the characters are as much if not more important than a good fight.

(I don't remember how the actual episode went in the anime, but iirc Luffy didn't have much trouble beating Krieg.)

"Actually"

(note I am speaking from the manga here)Don Krieg wounded Luffy more than anyone else would until he met Crocodile.True,Luffy didn't give a shit about that ,but he won thanks to determination, not strength, otherwise Don's gear equaled him. Also,it kinda ended as a double ko (thanks to Luffy's weakness in water)and you have to count that weakness, because it is what is paid for the strength (just as you have to count as a win Luffy decimating Enel, who managed only to prolong the inevitable with very high technique, despite Enel being stronger than any other enemy he met until he met Kuma, and even then, any oppoment he beat until he met Donflamingo (who he hasn't beaten yet)).

Yeah, if I am remembering both the manga and the animé correctly, Don Krieg only seems "easy" relative to what is to come. As you tend to expect, each "boss fight" in One Piece is more and more challenging, and this is just the first time Luffy got torn up facing one of them (unless we count his defeat as a boy at the hands of the bandits).

Gin is SUPPOSED to be more interesting than Krieg, because a requirement of the story is that Krieg actually be quite a shallow character; he exists so that Gin can be seen in contrast to him.

Personally I'd like to see what happened to these characters; you have to wonder if Don Krieg ever upped his game and either got better tech, his own Devil Fruit, and/or learned Haki.

Krieg is tough in the anime. He pierced Luffy's flesh with sharp bullets, and hit him several times with thd exploding spear.

Two arcs later, though, he would have lasted about as long as Bellamy.
