Fatal gaming flaw number four. The players will always come up with their own reason for something. It doesn't matter if all of the facts are against them, if someone has a goatee they are evil. No exceptions.

which is why the real villian will use some form of trickery to glue a fake goatee on the Paladin right before the players meet him.
