In the name of SCIENCE!, I'm gonna go ahead and calc that. In many (but not all) versions of D&D, including 3.5, a round of combat is meant to last 6 seconds.

So 73,466 rounds
= 440,796 seconds
= 7,346.6 minutes
= 122.44333 hours
= a battle that lasted a little over five straight days in-universe.

...which, fun fact, isn't even the longest battle in One Piece canon.

Lest ye not forget, that battle probably took just as long for the players themselves, possibly longer.

Given that the average round takes more than 6 seconds OUTSIDE of the game (my Pathfinder group averages about 5 minutes a round), there's a good chance that that endless combat lasted about a week in universe, but outside of game time. Especially in they took the time to look up some of their more obscure feats and such that allow them to mitigate damage and prevent fatigue.

Overall, still hilariously long combat.

Knowing gamer humor, I find it just as plausible that the players were fighting to a stand still for five days, 2 hours, 26 minutes and 36 second irl and someone calculated that into rounds to be pedantic. And since 73,466 is a snappier number I can see it sticking.
Because I am pretty sure the judges would call the competition long before the 8 months and 15 days Grrys is giving as a lowball estimate, which would represent them playing 5 minute rounds with no breaks or sleep. With a more generous time frame, keeping the five minute rounds for simplicity, but for my sanity limiting them to only playing 12 hours a day we would end with a grand total of 20 months 12 days and nearly 13 minutes of this battle. Mad props to the (fictional) DMs for either of those circumstances!

5 minutes a round? You're quite speedy. Small group, low level? Or just good at planning actions ahead?

... I'm the main reason it's in the single digits, as I'm usually the only one that plans ahead

I do love this element of Grand Line, all the things taken from outside just the source books and that there are contests etc.

Five days game time... how many days real time? Cuz 10 rounds of com at can take like 3 hours. Well, maybe not that bad cuz it's just 1v1, but still.

Regardless I can see why the players are impressed as well as the characters. That kind of dedication is the real deal.

Carry on Mad lads carry on!
