I for one kind of hate this style of DM. Yes it has A fear affect but clearly it’s not being used by the person in question and they are being very friendly. If the player in question believes that their character would respond to a friendly giant with being friendly they should be able to do so.

I get the initial fear factor but that should’ve worn off really quickly and should not affect RP beyond the initial Oh my god he’s huge.

This limits what the players can do unnecessarily.

Hmm… yeah. Now that I think about it, I probably should’ve played up player paranoia instead. :p

Eh. I think there's fun in sticking to the letter of the rules, and having circumstance be the 'enemy'. And there's also the question of 'Player vs. Character'. Yes, clearly the players and the DM understand that the giant is being friendly. However, the Characters are from a world where giants are known to eat people, and are in this giant's power. It's like if a tiger came up to you and started rubbing its head on you and acting like a housecat- sure, it's being friendly, but YOU DON'T KNOW that it's not going to crush your skull in its jaws in the next ten seconds.

"OTOH"

idk, i feel this is totally on point and in character for Rika. she's new to DMing and trying to figure her style out, and sometimes that means explicitly stating "your characters are afraid and/or paranoid" because you lack the descriptive lit chops to instill that.
that being said, the presence isnt like an aura thats always on, it triggers on attack, charge, or flying overhead... which rika would know. or at least, in D&D 3.5, i know the comic is using its own system thats similar but not quite the same but almost, so who knows how it actually works, but we can trust Rika is playing it mechanically correct

"Boosting another comic's publicity"

Unrelated, but there's a comic I've been following for a while now. It's called Avengers Adventure, and it's a screencap comic for the MCU. Currently on Iron Man 2, completed Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, and recently had a lot of plot twists.

"Frightening Presence"

In 3.5 was there not a clause about being immune to a creature's Frightening Presence after being affected by it once in a day? I feel like that exists modernly, and if it doesn't, that would really really suck and be lame.

Ah! I don't know why I called it "Frightening Presence"! It's Frightful Presence! >_<

Anyways, you become immune to it for 24 hours if you make your Saving Throw. If you don't make your Saving Throw, the effect lasts for ?d6 rounds, after which it could be used again, meaning you get to make another Saving Throw.
