To be fair, I could see why this would be annoying. Your character isn't allowed to be a King, but your friends character is a Princess? And it comes up as a big part of the plot?

Yeah, I can see why someone would be upset.

Still, curious how he'll be making a heroic sacrifice from here on out.

the friend that introduced him to the group, and has already played in the campaign and the GM trusts her to work with the plot? that friend? How very surprising she'd get a secret backstory... not.

You really don't need to be making excuses for this guy. He's been trying to drive a wedge in the group over some hidden slights only he knows about

Maybe it’s because I am on the Autism spectrum (and I wish I feel like I didn’t have to mention that just to make this point) but I can kind of understand the point that the first person made.

I don't think you need to be on the spectrum to understand why this could be upsetting. Things can be upsetting even when you know they're perfectly reasonable...

...and it keeps this guy relatable. If he's a jerk for no good reason, it falls rather flat, doesn't it? Maybe it isn't the way the story is going, but right now, the character is starting to almost be relatable. You know, those situations where it is hard to tell what came first:

you being a jerk

versus

no one trusts your actions, motivations, or planning

In this story, the former happened first but... we are only seeing a small window into this person's life. It still is the wrong approach, but maybe he's a jerk in response to how others have treated him?

He's manipulative but still seems like a real person, not a two dimensional flat stereotype.

There's a difference between understanding why someone would be upset and justifying why someone would be upset.

Just like how there are opinions that I completely disagree with yet understand why people would agree with it.

Understanding why someone thinks a certain way or came to a certain conclusion in no way means that you agree with them.

Sure, anyone would and can be allowed to be upset over a perceived slight.

However, as darkgloomie mentions, that takes the situation out of a lot of contexts. Including, but not limited to the upset player's own behaviors and choices up to this point.

Also for all we know, DM may have already had this plot in mind when Rika submitted her most recent character, with or without her "buddy" tagging along. She's been playing with the group longer, and hasn't had as many opportunities for a spotlight role.

Honestly, I'm kinda hoping this is his only character ever. Even besides that, I would really like to see some of the villains be actual npcs instead of constant pvp.

Kind of hope he will be the CP0 guy (the one obsess with Robin) and watch him get smack by everyone.

Which would add to the theory of Robin being her character for later.

I go by the thesis that speech bubbles are color coded to the character they will end up with:
Zoro Green (hair), Luffy Red (vest), Nami Orange (hair), Usopp brownish beige (bandana) and believe the purple of Rika's bubbles is intended to coincide with Chopper's hat. She also intended to play a medic character earlier. Maybe she'll take over Chopper after having him as a cohort first when she leaves Vivi behind? Also, I imagine Jayden might stay with the group and take over Sanji later (hidden royalty backstory).

The Jayden taking over Sanji has merit. From what we've seen he seems to favour the ladies and is
Somewhat antagonistic to Cory.

Whoa. That last bit especially makes a lot of sense. I mean, this is a screen cap campaign comic; they're famous (or infamous) for how they "adapt" a storyline...

...and it is easy to forget that Player and Player Character can sometimes wind up shuffled. In this case, with it being a GMPC, it may even be more natural. Oh, and while some have already happened, spoiler for those who aren't more or less caught up with anime for One Piece:

What if Gordon has grown so tired of Sanji, for whatever reason, so he's intentionally trying to kill him off on Fish-Men Island Arc? Jayden may actually be intended to pull a Heel-Face turn of some sort with respect to the actual group, so Sanji's expanded backstory, revealed in the Zou and Whole Cake Island Arcs is either a gift or a test for Jayden as much as Sanji.

Lol, I wonder how often DragonTamer changes his plans based on us guessing them well ahead of schedule, or because he actually sees something worthwhile suggested which hadn't occurred to him? XD

We've had npc villains. Both Arlong and Krieg were npcs. Doesn't feel like it's much of a difference if they are run by Gordon or someone else though.

Also Buggy and Alvida. And Djanjo, who was supposed to be the Big Bad of the Black Cat Pirates, not Kuro played by DM.
