Course not, how else would they have prepared the town to try and kill you?

Of course, that is assuming they can swim faster then a boat.

This is 3.5e, not 5e. It's just Swim (str).

With this being 3.5, unless they get a swim speed from something, that means they go 1/4 land speed... but if you take into account epic level rules, taking just a -20 to their swim checks they can move normal land speed. That's still probably slower than a ship.
But hey, whatever. It's also One Piece. Everyone could be 1/32 fishman.

There's also a myriad of magic items that could apply in this situation. Even if it were limited-use or use-per-day, something to grant swim speed or big bonuses to swim checks on a "high seas" game would be worth the investment.

Unless you take the Devil Fruit User class. Then you should find a way to fly.

Keep in mind this setting in module probably has different swimming roles considering it is a naval campaign and Devil fruits are supposed to have a crippling weakness to balance them out . So swimming is a part of most people’s base kit

Augh I'm getting real tired of this guy telling her what to do. Taking control of another person's character is bad form in any roleplay enviornment, not to mention how he's taking control of her IRL too. His comeuppance had better be swift and brutal.

Remember his fate in the anime: Zoro pulls him by his chain-based weapon into the air and uses him as a meat-shield against Mr. 5's exploding booger.

Spoilers man. I haven't read the manga in like ten years, I barely remember what happens.

Jerk-hating OP here, I've never seen it, so I'm actually not particularly familiar with this show other than general awareness that it's an anime about pirates. So I wouldn't know anything about that.

Though a few pages ago people were talking in the comments about his character being redeemed or not such a bad guy after all in the show. I'm really hoping the D&D group doesn't let him get away with this behavior and gloss it over with a "redemption". The player should get booted from the game (and also booted a bit more literally, ideally involving his skull up against a curb, for good measure) in which case I guess the character would be turned into an NPC?
