Some jobs you don't even want to pretend to do. That's what the pretend-people are for.

In a sadly short lived campaign the DM was shocked when I said that I was planning to invest in cooking skills. Apparently they enjoy taking skills seriously, and no-one had ever volunteered before to actually be able to cook, seeing it as the most boring of the survival skills.

I then laid out that, as a Phantom Thief, being able to impersonate a proffessional chef was an excellent way to infiltrate a mansion.

And woo the residents, I'm sure.
Or to make yourself some coffee and curry to keep yourself going.

What? Woo the Lord's daughter at her debutant, taking the first dance instead of her betrothed or Father, unravel his counterfeit tea scheme, steal his magical cards, prevent the murderous riot he orchestrated, and ride off into the sunset with said daughter?

Me?

Surely you jest.

(Now, another character I have mostly does just cook to look after the party. Weapons of the gods. Normal max dice roll is 5 dice at this point, I can roll 9 for cooking.)

Aye, the "boring stuff" can actually be a lot of fun. Just run it by the GM, and check to see if there are any rules specific to it (you'd hate to be blindsided by them).

You get a way for your character to spotlight and the GM gets a new building block for the story. :)

In a campaign that's sadly no longer run i was the parties main combatant and bodyguard to the niece of the countries governor. I was also one of the best chefs in said country just because i had so many situations arise that needed me to put the skill to use.

I've made it a point to drop a rank into some cooking related skill ever since I discovered that you could buy a waffle iron and instant waffle mix (travel cake mix) in pathfinder.
Now all my parties have waffles for breakfast and I always get the last watch rotation

And THIS is why books should have a variety of gear and items listed beyond weapons/armor/obvious adventurer gear.
I played Mutants and Masterminds, and saw a Pickup Truck among the available vehicles.
What kind of superhero runs around in a pickup truck?
The best hero I ever built, a cranky old redneck with a customized shotgun and heightened senses who's basically every antigovernment/redneck/gun nut stereotype out there.

I've got a homebrew class I'm developing called the Glutton. Guess what they do?

In any case, they all get proficiency with chef's tools, and a reliance on food. I've got a test character named Nana Goodpudding, who's a halfling glutton, who's always cooking for her party like they're her grandkids. She adventures for much the same reason that Sanji does- to find interesting and exotic food and ingredients to make into delicious dishes.

Roast Roc is her favorite.

"Dungeon Catering Service"

I just made a character yesterday on a Roll 20 / D&D group, meant to be able to go up to the BBEG's lair and announce 'Catering, where do you want us to set up?'. He's a Mark of Hospitality Halfling (Unearthed Arcana) with background as a Guild Artisian, Cook... while also being a Rogue - Assassin. (Proficiency with Poison Kit). Actually ran him through one session and, while I didn't get a chance to bluff, was fun to play what I described/pictured as a Halfling who looked like a shrunken Gordon Ramsey.
