yeah, sometimes you're so outmatched it's clear you should'nt go for the fight. Not that early in the campaign, at least.

The frame of Zoro gritting his teeth is absolutely perfect for illustrating Cory's inner struggle. Him running the data through his head and reluctantly coming to the conclusion that the prospect of getting that sweet, sweet XP simply isn't worth risking everything for really shows how far Cory's come.

Then again, with so many sessions in, it's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have gotten attached enough to his character (and the characters of his teammates, loyalty flaws or no) to avoid making rash decisions that put everyone in danger of a TPK. He's probably planning to come back to fight the whale later anyway, but the fact that he's able to make a level-headed decision *when the XP is right there* shows the kind of maturity that Cory's up to this point only shown outside the gaming table. Or while sleep-deprived.

that reminds me of a old acquaintance of mine. He used to be the type who always go for the fight, even at the risk of getting his character killed, until one of his characters lasted long enough that he just did'nt want to lose it. He said it was because he did'nt want to waste all the time he spent optimizing that one, but we all knew it was also because he was having too much fun playing that one.

I have a feeling that we're gonna be seeing just how much Corey can want to monopolize that sweet sweet XP. Since the next Map will be Cactus Island...

So... Any story that you find something so overleveled that you can hardly damage and forced to choose between High Exp or survive.

In 3.5 There exists a threshold above which no XP is recieved. For example there is a Lv 1 commoner build, which given a lenient enough DM willing to engage in enough dark humor to make the build work, capable of solo killing the Tarasque. Said commoner then needs to party up with 57 additonal commoners if he wants to count as a high enough level party to actually recieve any XP for doing so.

Is it possible to give him one 57th of the XP instead?
