I prefer to stand on the side lines of shipping wars watching the fire works...and I generally go for the crack pairings for laughs. The more absurd weird or just wrong the more hilarious for me.
Mind you only generally. Sometimes I do support a 'real' ship...but not often.
i never go with the harem. i agree on the three peoples solutions.
and i like the slash pairing as well.
anyway, when i ship, i absolutely not do it with the hope that it become canon, since whatever i ship tend to be quite far from canon anyway.
RWBY has some great Ship names, especially when you start pairing the background and side characters.
MC Ruby Rose, (basically a loli with a BFG) with Yatsuhashi, a gentle giant of few words with a BFS?
Two popular Ship names are: "Compensating" and "Vantage Point."
Ruby and Penny, a robogirl? "Nuts n' Dolts"
Then there's Fox the blind boxer, and Neo the mute, whose ship is dubbed "Communication Error."
Best Crack ship I've seen was Azula and Aang. There's not much of it around, but when it's done right, it's amazing.
See, the whole idea is that Azula respects power- and of course, Aang has Power in spades. And Aang is also the only character forgiving enough to consider Azula with significant, non-fear respect and empathy.
speeking of pairing, something that happened just yesterday:
My mother, (halfway through reading nisekoi, and wondering about the whole harem thing): So in the end do he end up with Chitoge or the other girl (she called the other girl by her name, i just don't remember it).
My sister (who lend her the mangas in the first place): I'm not going to spoil you the end. Then you will complain that i ruined the suspens. Read to see how it go.
Mother: Or maybe he end un with one of the others girls... Did he end up with one of them at least?
Me (who have only tried reading a few early chapter of Nisekoi long ago before stopping since it is not really my type of manga, no offense if it's yours), in the most natural and "matter-of-fact" tone possible: Nah, in the end, the guy make his coming-out and start going-out with his best friend. That ending sure surprised me back then.
My sister: Yes, did'nt saw that coming. <
Mom: What? how did it happen.
Sis: Read if you want to see, i tell you.
don't know about this show since i don't watch it, but that's the thing with shipping, even if it is indeed extremely obvious that one character is the love interest you'll have some fan denying it.
Now as far as the character's here goes, they seem to be doing it mostly for fun, keeping civil about it, and not really trying to argue seriously about it.
Yeah. not the first i ship a slash pairing.
(to be clear, i'm not expecting it to be canon, it's very rare for me to ship something because i actually want it to be cannon rather than for the heck of it. and i never get all serious about shipping.)
i don't pay much attention to shipping and i tend to either not notice or ignore anything that is'nt blatant set in stone canon (like Jonathan Joestar and Erina Pendleton ).
It just does'nt interest me much. Now, i'm generally not to invested in the romantic subplot, i even generally have trouble getting into a romance foccused show.
Shipping is fine as long as you don't take it so seriously that it sucks the fun out of the show itself.
As far as Soma goes, I like Megumi better but Erina is pushed so heavily as the one person that Soma wants to impress. It would be hilarious if it got to the end of the series where Soma gets Erina to admit that she likes his cooking, and then he makes it clear that it's literally the ONLY thing he was looking for from her, and there's no romance between them. But I'm not going to bet the farm on that.

My solution to shipping wars is simple. Threesomes. Or harems depending on the volume of people involved.
Also yuri, yuri is good. Always bet on the yuri ship.

I tend to wait out those discussions as well. 19 times out of 20 it's going to be the Tsundere in the end anyway.

Not even a contest it’s really obvious the author is going for Erin’s as the love interest and the recent arc just proves it

Interesting, the OP crew sides with Megumi and the SU side with Erina. I’m an Erina man myself.
Also Shipping’s fine, but Shipping War can get ridiculously out of hand. I’m looking at you Homestuck!
