"Story Time - A Genuine misunderstanding"

As we can see above, sometimes we just plain go ahead and fail to comprehend the events happening around us properly. Talk about a time that either somebody completely missed what was happening, and bonus points if it led to fun*

Dwarf Fortress fun, specifically

One time we met the major domo of a noble household. I, not knowing what a major domo was, though his name was Major Domo. Needless to say, negotiations got awkward fast, especially with him secretly being a demon and all.

I have so many of those stories, just out of the current reach of my memory. It's like on the tip of my tongue, but in my head. I know there are probably some good ones :P

We had a plan to assassinate the high priest of a group of goblins and the phrase for me to drop down and garrote him was along the lines of "The hard way it is".

My teammate who was talking to the goblin ended up saying "Which is better? The easy way or the hard way?" And the goblin responded the easy way. He looped it again and I missed his meaning again. My teammate got annoyed and once again said "The easy way or THE HARD WAY?" At which point it clicked that he was doing the signal even if he wasn't saying it and so I hopped down. While strangling the guy I had to complain that that wasn't the phrase to start and so it wasn't my fault and he just kind of stared at me.

This one time we were hired to go into the underdark and kill some drow. It seemed pretty extreme, even to do to an "evil race" so I asked the NPC, "Is this solution meant to be . . . final?"

And everyone nodded and said "Ah!" and pointed at their head, then me. Except for that ONE guy who asked: "Or are we supposed to go kill all of them?"
