Makes sense. If the game's already turning into "Okay, your enemy in invulnerable because you're all twinks, let's see how you deal with him" then giving the Barbarian a Lion Cloak of DR100/Grappeling isn't going to break the game too much- and is a suitable sort of character reward as well. Plus, it's cool, so is definitely something more encouraging to get.
I mean, both loot and xp are resources. Heck, they're both expendable resources... as my GMPC learned when fighting spectres recently. But hey, he didn't really need those two levels of scout and two levels of shadowdancer anyway, right?
In this particular scene, roleplaying loot makes more sense than roleplaying xp.
my group tends roundd up/down the xp since the small amount of xp gets neglect able at higher levels, so a gear reward would be a reward, whereas xp gets... a meh fealing, unless it's alot. and don't give me alot, give me a weird as gizmo that have a emootional worth to m char.
one of the best things we ever got was a minimic, a mini mimic that bit for 1 nonleathal damage. best. pet. ever. also shiny. so cute, and it didn't die from being no feeding like most of my chars pets. it could after all go into a slumber while waiting for pray...
I feel this cements the difference between the two gms.
And I think will go into why that Dm will return with Robin and try to kill themself off after the next betrayl in the plot because they feel bad.
And also the big difference Gm gives bonus because it fits Dm forces the party to find there tiny plot thread.
Also man I just so which this series was moving just a touch faster I love it so much.

Wait.
Encoraging roleplaying in your munchkins by bribing them with loot instead of xp?
The Old One is intrigued by this notion, and The Old One would like to know more......
