"One does not simply find a weapon shop..."

This happens in almost any campaign. The weapons shop is most often the most fleshed out and preplanned area on tbe map. The owner always ends up with a unique personality, and there's always some special stock hanging around that only adventurers ever go for. I love creating these places because I know that they'll be used in almost every city and village.

That always depends. I mean, one campaign I was in started off with one character visiting a weapon shop because they forgot to buy a weapon before they started... I know. Anyways, he ended up grabbing some weird two-bladed sword that he thought was interesting. The sword was very cheap for what it was. Magic, only 100gp, every magic shop in the area refused to let it into their shop to identify it after he bought it. Turned out to be sentient, mistake him as his(the sword's) wife. Oh, and it was also a sword that was used to seal away great evils who get closer to escaping every time it scores a critical hit and the magic released weakens the seal. But he refused to stop using it, because, well... it was very very good at doing a lot of damage to enemies... and himself.

Long story short we first released a young-adult Blue Dragon[who had gotten helm of opposite alignmented as she was sealed] who helped us through a couple things and the character swore to serve[3.5 UA Blue Dragon Bloodline, so for some reason he figured it should become the dragon's follower]. Next up was an Ancient Red Dragon that previously had planned to sacrifice most of the world's population for a ritual to ascend to godhood. Said Dragon decided they'd had enough and immediately left to go live a quiet life not stuck in a sword.

Sadly we never got to see Barney the Arch-Devil who the GM and I had designed for fun just before the start of the campaign. [Negative level hugs were fun to add] The saga of Sonic the Werewolf ended before we got that far. [He had Blue Hair from the Dragon Bloodline. Oh, and he and another player also ate the cursed cookies we all bought from an girl scout ghost while traversing undead catacombs because she wouldn't take no for an answer and we didn't want to have ANOTHER encounter. They were the only two stupid enough to eat them.]

That was a fun campaign.

I'm pretty sure I was going somewhere with, it depends, but I think I forgot what I had planned... Other times weapon shops are very unremarkable.

Although there is one magic shop in that world that I've convinced myself is run by a Demigod under the Greater Deity of Time in that setting. I have no proof, only circumstantial evidence. It's probably not, but ever since I thought of it, I can't accept it not being so.
