Oh, please. You can never under any circumstances take the barkeep in a fight.

To be fair, most who try are blackout drunk to begin with. Doesn’t mean it’s any less true, just a mild point.

Whenever I run a game, I explicitly give every barkeep a quirk or ability of some kind that makes picking a fight with them the worse mistake of your life. Once I made the barkeep a natural Lycanthrope (so he could change of his own free will). Hilarity ensued

"This bartender sounds scrawny! What's his quirk?"
"One For All."

Once came across a barman that we where suposed to avoid fight because he had relation, as in very dangerous and powerful relation, as in great adventurers, powerful spirits, a king, a dragon whoses live he saved long ago, and even the big bad's second in command (who was way above our reach at this point of the campaign).
One player (a guest, he was'nt used to how we play) said "hey, we just attack him now and get far away before any of his friends ear about it."
I wanted to tell him "No, you fool!", but the GM reminded me before i could talk that my character was far from being within earshot of his character. The only one of us who was just said "you're doing that whithout me. i don't pick a fight with someone who did'nt attack first, if i have not been contracted to do so." which was the in-character reason why.
The reason why i wanted to tell him to not attack was that obviousely a guy who is in casual brunch term with strong being in every faction had to meet theses being somehow. it was only logical that the barkeep was going to have some background to justify how he knew everyone. Did'nt end well for the guy to go one on one against the retired master swordsman whoses skills, acording to the legend, "where so afuted he could slash direclty through one's soul".

"i should have proofreed my comment"

avoid fighting*
relations* with a "s" (2x)
terms
beings with a "s" (2x too)
according*
and so sharp* instead of affuted, which is'nt a word in the english language.

Sorry about that, i have to pay attention, or stop posting when i haven't slept for 42 hours

"how did it turn out"

Did the guy died or what?

"turn out not too badly"

he lived, because the GM did not roll too high, and because, i quote, "was not going to get the occasion to narate what happen when someone got his soul directly wounded but don't die" too often.
