Yes, but they deserve much better than that, much much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

you can't cut steel with a sword of any kind.... pig iron i would believe but unlike what pop. culture wants you to believe even 2 inches of steel plate is enough to stop the sharpest sword cold.

"Its a old joke"

Its an old joke meant to mock weebs who got upset when Katanas were realistically powered in dnd, instead of being like in their Japanese animes

Keeping the katana at normal is a good thing,
but...Thinking of it, if fighter could pull out the monstruous kind of "training superpower" find in anime, that'll clear any possible issue of unbalance between Mage and Fighter at high level, without nerfing the casters.
Let's take One Piece, here. even a character whithout Devil Fruit and ''magic'' (like Nami climat tact) are still pretty damn relevant high in the power scale. Because if you do enough Badass training in One Piece, you get to cut mountain in Half.

In term of RPG, this mean not bothering to keep the melee "realist"...i mean, in a setting where people who can make apocalypse rain from the sky, i'm pretty willing to accept that people who can crush a fortress to dust by punching it hard would exist. i's not like we're trying to be down to earth

It seems like my group is made up of nothing BUT characters with single-minded trains of thought- the trick is to get them all to line up enough to work together.
