In all fairness with Luke and Cory in the same exact place at the same time...the odds of something going wrong with their matching horrible direction flaws was pretty good for an excuse too.

"Story time"

Tell a story about a DM that had to buy time before he could move the story along.

"Ewoks Misadventures"

I'm running a long spanning Star Wars campaign. At a critical juncture where we needed all hands for the next session, three of my players were unavailable and I was half wiped out from illness. But the show must go on! In the previous session our darksider had picked up a group of Ewok minions. Without telling him why, I told him to stat them up as lower level PCs. I told another of my players to GM with a rough outline of an adventure hook (Your ship crashed on a junkyard world. The PCs are off scavenging parts and left the NPCs to guard the ship. Local droids try to melt it down for scrap)

Needless to say, a group of Ewoks with NO technical or piloting skills managed to jury rig repairs, go on a joy ride, destroy a droid factory, and crash the ship even more. About the only thing they didn't do is operate the communications to let the PCs find where they landed the ship.

For a minute I almost thought you were *my* GM, at least until you mentioned Ewoks. XD I'm in a Star Wars D6 campaign right now and we had a few rough sessions missing a good church of our players recently. Thankfully the planet is still intact for now. We just have to hurry up with the evacuation.
