Story time about ending a combat by not fighting.

a group i played with talked down the big fight at the end by promising him a chance to kill all the invading aliens he could before dying again.

....after leaving me stranded and forced into a low speed car chase with the cops to catch up.

My group had to protect a Drider from a Mind Flayer (long story). When he tried to go for the usual strategy of Mind Blast/Tentacle Face Rape, we pointed out the difference in height between the two (a Mind Flayer is around 6 feet tall and a Drider is over 7 feet).
So the DM decides to have the Mind Flayer jump and latch on the Drider. Cue a nat 20 on the Jump check, swiftly followed by a nat 1 on the Grapple check.
It was unanimously decided that the Mind Flayer overshot his target and concussed himself by hitting the ceiling. Which began the epic of our adventuring group and our cohort GlubGlub, the friendly but not too bright Illithid.

Don't send a human who just got bitten by a vampire and is about to turn to a monster-hunting group where one of the members has been constantly joking about giving crucifixes to literally everyone and everything. We probably could have hugged the poor thing to dead with the amount each of us had on us.
Instead, that same member hold her down, and slowly while the rest of us stood ready with steaks and (of course) crucifixes, and kept dropping holy water on her. Somehow, we managed to give her enough strength to stop the vampire from taking over.
A few months later, and we now have a girl who can turn Vamp at will in our monster hunter group XD

I sold our bard to a blue dragon as a concubine so we didn't have to fight it. Good times.

My group were on a mission to extract a rich guy (willingly) from his family's mansion, preferably without having to fight or kill any of the guards. We had an opening in the security patrols, but it was a section that was occasionally patrolled by a cerberi.

So what we did was my character chugged a Spider Climb potion and tried to make it across the yard. Flubbed the stealth check, though, so even though the cerberi was a distance off, it came charging in and only gave me a handful of rounds to finish the job. My character ran as fast as she could, climbed the wall up to the target's balcony and delivered the message letting him know we were on the same side and not burglars.

So we get the guy, the cerberi is still approaching. Flub an acrobatics check to drop down quickly, so a round gets burned picking ourselves back up. We make a dash for the estate's wall when the cerberi comes into view. Fortunately, the rest of the group was waiting at the gate with spells prepared. Our oracle cast Shadow Snap to pin the cerberi in place once it got into range, and the warpriest cast Silence to give us some time to make our getaway. The cerberi failed the saving throw for both, so we made it out without any combat.

Hypnotic Pattern. Charmed like... 8 guys at once with that spell. They were all too happy to hand over their gear. And all smart enough to not resist once they realized what happened.
